Spawnapp - 2015
Created for gamers, by gamers. Spawnapp is a social media tool exclusively for gamers to meet up and game in real life, taking the friendships and camaraderie gained virtually into competitions, meet-ups, events and more.
The app was designed to showcase individual gamer's favourite games, achievements and location, enabling faster connection between likeminded gamers.
Step one - Adjusting brand
With research done and a loose brand identity in place, my role was to do slight brand adjustments as well as create user flows, create wireframes and implement UX and UI.
Your gaming profile
At the heart of the application was each user’s personal gaming profile. A showcase of your skills, accolades, attending events, preferred gaming platforms and naturally, scores. As gamers, it was important for the founders to trial an element of gamification within the application. So we scored this by combing both activity in the application with in-game scored from the games of your choice.
The real world
The ultimate goal of the app was to facilitate real-world interactions between gamers, with the promotion of events big and small being a core feature of the app. A dedicated events page was created that featured filters, search and friend finder. A chat feed was auto-created per event, localised to your area.
Local chat groups
Though interviews and discussion potential users, facilitating localised chats for feasible, face-to-face interaction was key in achieving the ultimate goal of Spawnapp.
With digital friend groups, one gamer can be chatting with multiple people at once.
